coulda, shoulda, too late now
I got in touch with a classmate, via another classmate, this past weekend. M, the classmate I got in touch with was not that close a friend, nothing new for me, but I was a closer friend with his younger brother, David. I hung out with those guys right after high school and before I went off and enlisted in the Coast Guard. I think I blogged about them once, but I can't find that blog. I am thinking that is how the other person knew to connect me with them on facebook.
Anyhow, I asked Marvin how his brother David was doing, and he told me he had been killed in a automobile accident a few years ago. I say now what I said, or wrote, when I heard it: Wow.
When I left at 20 years of age and went to the military, I just did it. I wanted to get away. Maybe I was running from something, myself maybe. I'll let the analysts and wanna be analysts deal with that, if they want to. I more or less revved up the engines, so to speak, burned rubber with spinning wheels, and left the loose ends dangling.
Silsbee is a connected town however, like most small towns. People know your family past, presnet and future. What I am getting to is I was planning to look David up one day. I had know idea what he was up to. I guess I should mention that David and his brother are white, and I am black. That factors in somehow. I never did re connect that loose end.
I seldom visit Silsbee. I tip in and tip out. I wasn't Mr. social when I left, but I did know some folks. they are all grandparents now. Then there is the adventist thing, sabbath and all that. Maybe I use that as a crutch. Then again, that's how I feel. When the weekend rolls around I think about the sabbath; I am in sabbath mode. Quite often I am in church, or I am at home watching 3abn or hopetv, wishing I had gone to church. Silsbee is a Sunday town. Friday night football, carousing, a bit more of the same on Saturday and Satuday night. Then Sunday is a rest day, maybe even church.
Me? I like staying at home, reading, internet, etc. I don't like hanging out much. Too dangerous. Stuff can happen anywhere though.
Anyway, I didn't reconnect with David. Oh well. Maybe i could of witnessed to him.

4/17/2010 saturday
Today has been a good saturday, or sabbath. We went to church. I even served with the deacons. There were some vacancies. Perhaps many are going over the the newly remodeled church in Missouri City. I don't know. Good church just the same.
